Finding the Best Chicken Coop for You

With so many options to choose from in your chicken coop choices, where is a good place to begin? One of the most important things you can factor into your search for a great chicken coop is space. Depending on the type of birds you have, and the size of flock you need, that required amount of space can vary widely. The most ideal situation would include plenty of free range space for all of your birds; However, in many cases this is not always possible. Depending on where you live, there may be regulations that restrict the total size of your flock, or their free-range abilities. Before purchasing a flock of birds, or a chicken coop, it is always best to check your local laws and regulations to ensure that any rules are followed. Having taken the local laws into account, you will then know if there are any restrictions as to flock or coop size. Using this as a basis, a good rule of thumb for ideal flock health is to provide around 3 square feet of indoor space per standard size bird, and roughly half that amount for bantams or smaller birds. It is always ideal to provide significantly more space than this recommendation if you intend to keep your birds entirely indoors with no free-range access. Once you have the approximate square footage, you can then select a coop that fits these parameters; We offer several stand-alone coops for free range or fence access, as well as coops with included enclosures.
